For Women & Couples
What can we do for you?
Surrogacy is a process where a woman, known as the surrogate, carries and delivers a child for a couple or individual. Using IVF, embryos are created using the eggs of the intended mother and the sperm of the intended father or from donor eggs and/or sperm if needed. The surrogate does not provide the egg and is therefore not genetically related to the baby.
Is Surrogacy right for you?
Surrogacy may be a good option for you if:
- You are experiencing fertility challenges, such as fibroids or uterine scarring, which make it difficult or unsafe to carry a pregnancy.
- You have a medical condition that poses significant risks to your health if you become pregnant.
- You have experienced recurrent pregnancy loss/recurrent failed IVF cycles.
- You do not have a functioning uterus.
These reasons apply to both couples and single women.
What is the surrogacy process?
Once a suitable surrogate has been identified and a legal agreement has been finalised, the following 11 steps will take place:
Consultation
A consultation session will be held with the doctor to review the process, address any concerns, and discuss what to expect.
Diagnostic testing
Tests will be conducted, followed by a consultation to review the results and discuss the personalised treatment plan.
Stopping the menstrual cycle of the intended mother
Fertility medication is used to temporarily stop the menstrual cycle.
Stimulating the ovaries of the intended mother
The ovaries are stimulated and encouraged to produce multiple eggs and mature them using fertility medication.
Collecting the egg and sperm
Once the eggs are mature, they are collected from the ovaries. A sperm sample is also collected.
Combining the eggs and sperm
The eggs and sperm are combined in the lab to create embryos which are grown over several days.
Freezing the embryos
The embryos are carefully frozen and stored.
Preparing the body
The surrogate will begin taking medication to prepare her body for the frozen embryo transfer.
Transferring the embryo
Once an embryo is selected, it will be transferred to the surrogate’s uterus.
Taking a pregnancy test
Two weeks after the embryo transfer, a pregnancy test will be taken to confirm pregnancy.
Confirming the pregnancy with an ultrasound scan
Two weeks after a positive pregnancy test,a scan is done to locate and confirm the pregnancy.
How much does a surrogacy cycle cost?
*The above costs cover a single surrogacy cycle. Please note that consultation fees, diagnostic tests for the intended parents and surrogate, personalised treatment plans and medications for the intended mother and surrogate are not included.
