For Women & Couples
What can we do for you?
IVF (in vitro fertilisation) is a procedure in which eggs and sperm are combined in a lab to create embryos. The embryos are then transferred to the uterus to grow and develop.
IVF can be carried out using your own eggs and sperm or donor eggs and sperm if needed. The embryos can also be frozen and inserted into the uterus at a later date using the frozen embryo transfer procedure.
Is IVF right for you?
IVF may be a good option for you if:
- You are a single woman who would like to have a baby.
- You are a couple experiencing difficulties conceiving as a result of fertility challenges.
- You have tried other fertility treatments, and they have been unsuccessful.
What is the IVF process?
The IVF process involves the following 9 steps:
Consultation
A consultation session will be held with the doctor to review the process, address any concerns, and discuss what to expect.
Diagnostic testing
Tests will be conducted, followed by a consultation to review the results and discuss the personalised treatment plan.
Stopping the menstrual cycle
Fertility medication is used to temporarily stop the menstrual cycle.
Stimulating the ovaries
The ovaries are stimulated and encouraged to produce multiple eggs and mature them using fertility medication.
Collecting the egg and sperm
Once the eggs are mature, they are collected from the ovaries. A sperm sample is also collected.
Combining the eggs and sperm
The eggs and sperm are combined in the lab to create embryos which are grown over several days.
Transferring the embryo
Once the embryos are ready, an embryo is transferred to the uterus.
Taking a pregnancy test
Two weeks after the embryo transfer, a pregnancy test will be taken to confirm pregnancy.
Confirming the pregnancy with an ultrasound scan
Two weeks after a positive pregnancy test,a scan is done to locate and confirm the pregnancy.
