For Women & Couples
What can we do for you?
Embryo freezing, also known as embryo cryopreservation, is a procedure where embryos are frozen and stored for future use. When you’re ready to conceive, the embryos are thawed and transferred to the uterus through a procedure called frozen embryo transfer.
Is embryo freezing right for you?
Embryo freezing may be a good option for you if:
- You have undergone an IVF cycle and wish to preserve embryos for transfer at a later date.
- You are not ready to have children but want to preserve the option for the future.
- You would like a backup plan in case your current fertility treatment does not succeed.
- Your doctor recommends delaying the embryo transfer to increase your chances of pregnancy.
- Your partner is about to undergo medical treatment or a procedure that may affect their fertility, and you want to secure the possibility of starting a family later.
What’s the difference between embryo freezing and egg freezing?
Embryo freezing involves fertilising eggs with sperm to create embryos, which are then frozen. In contrast, egg freezing involves collecting and freezing unfertilised eggs without combining them with sperm.
What is the embryo freezing process?
The embryo freezing process involves 7 steps:
Consultation
A consultation session will be held with the doctor to review the process, address any concerns, and discuss what to expect.
Diagnostic testing
Tests will be conducted, followed by a consultation to review the results and discuss the personalised treatment plan.
Stopping the menstrual cycle
Fertility medication is used to temporarily stop the menstrual cycle.
Stimulating the ovaries
The ovaries are stimulated and encouraged to produce multiple eggs and mature them using fertility medication.
Collecting the egg and sperm
Once the eggs are mature, they are collected from the ovaries. A sperm sample is also collected.
Creating the embryos
The eggs and sperm are combined in the lab to create embryos which are grown over several days.
Freezing the embryos
The created embryos are frozen and safely stored for future use.
